But what if because of some reasons you require to change your virtual environments but unable to access the file created by that particular product like Vmware.
Recently I have noticed there is a lot of queries about how to recover backups made within VMware into a Hyper-V environment. VMware Server which has made it possible to partition a single physical drive into multiple virtual machines and support VMDK file extension. One of the main advantages of switching to VHDX is its increased storage capacity is in terabytes. Anti-virus apps must be supported. VMware tools must be uninstalled from the guest operating system of the VM.
It also converts physical machines and disks to Hyper-V hosts. It won't be available after June 3, Learn more. The next screen that you will encounter asks you to provide a bit of information about how you want the virtual machine to be converted. Specifically, you will need to enter the virtual machine name that you want the VM to use once it is moved to Hyper-V. You will also need to specify the virtual machine generation although this option is sometimes grayed out , as well as the number of processors and the amount of memory that you want to assign to the VM once it has been converted.
The wizard also gives you the opportunity to select an automatic start action and an automatic stop action, as shown in the image below.
Click Next, and you will be prompted to choose the disks that you want to convert. The options that are shown on this screen vary a little bit depending on how the virtual machine is currently configured. Clicking on a disk controller reveals the virtual hard disks that are attached to the controller. As you can see in the next image, for example, my virtual machine has a virtual hard disk that is attached to SCSI controller 0.
Selecting the checkbox corresponding to this virtual hard disk ensures that the virtual hard disk will be included in the conversion process. This is where you enter the name or the IP address of the Hyper-V host to which you wish to move the converted virtual machine.
Incidentally, you may be prompted to enter a set of administrative credential when evaluating a host server. You can choose either Hot Migration or Reboot to WinPE, and Hot Migration is the recommended options, as it can perform the system migration in the background. Hence, you need to neither reboot system nor interrupt ongoing work. Step 4. Browse your computer to find the VM you saved in step 2, select it and click Open. Now the virtual machine is listed in VMware Workstation.
Click Power on this virtual machine to boot the system. Note: there might be licensing issues with the system in the virtual machine. Windows licenses is usually allowed to be used on one computer at a time, and Windows activation may regard that the system in your virtual machine is running on a different physical computer. In that case, you may need to contact Microsoft to fix the issue.
The converting can be completed without launching your virtual machines. Note: The function to convert virtual disk format is available for DiskGenius Professional Edition, and you need to upgrade to Professional Edition prior to conversion. Click Source Virtual Disk button to select the virtual disk you want to change its format. Click Select button to specify a location to save the destination virtual disk. The conversion does not affect the original virtual disk itself to avoid data loss, thus you need to store the new virtual disk file with wanted format.
Step 5. Click Convert button to complete the conversion.
